Sharon grew up in a rural area in northern Iowa. She knew she wanted to be a Massage Therapist when she was in High School.  In 1995 Sharon became a Registered Nurse.

She practiced hospital nursing for 5 years in areas such as, medical/surgical, cardiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, and oncology before moving to the Kansas City area. It wasn’t long after her move to Kansas City, when she learned about a massage school and so she started attending classes in the evenings and weekends, while she continued working as a nurse.

Her passion for massage grew as she realized and witnessed natural approaches to health and wellness. Back & Bodyworks was born in September of 1999. It wasn’t long before she was able to phase out of nursing and make massage her full time focus.

Sharon is passionate about educating/inspiring people about living a healthy lifestyle, whether it is nutrition, stress management, fitness, etc. She is active with her husband and kid,s and participates in triathlons to keep her accountable for staying in shape.

When asked about what she likes about her job: “I love what I do. I love what I do for people. I love working with people who are proactive in their health. Massage is the perfect vocation for me. I have an opportunity to really learn and get to know about people on a deeper level, and watch them improve and that is such an honor and blessing.”

Sarah received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Chattanooga in Tennessee. During her undergrad she was inducted into the Tri-Beta Honor and Golden Key Society. She also won a Scholar in Residence Award while maintaining the position of the Secretary of University's Martial Art's Club.

Her position as secretary allowed her to travel to China with her Tai ji instructor in 2000 and in 2004. Greatly inspired, Sarah decided to pursue the field of Chinese Medicine, moving to Boulder, CO to enroll at Southwest Acupuncture College.

After completing the graduate program and national board exams, she now has a degree for Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine, Certification in Clean Needle Technique, National Certification in Acupuncture and Herbology and Diploma License to practice in the state of Missouri.

While working on her Master's, Sarah was a part of the Acupuncture Association of Oriental Medicine, interned under two acupuncture and herbalists and worked in a pharmacy of Chinese herbs.

Sarah now lives in the Kansas City area where her family is from to share her passion in Chinese Medicine with the community. She is currently a member of the Acupuncture Association of Missouri.
